Snake Fence at Red Rock!

Gardeneer Weed Shield

Easy One-Time Installation:

First - Unroll Weed-Shield and cut material to desired length.  Fit Weed-Shield
(black side up/gray side down) around plants or cut slits in material to fit over            plants. Overlap adjacent sections 3 inches.  Secure ends of material to the
           ground with garden staples.

(Be sure to leave openings for daffodils, tulips and other bulbs to allow them to
emerge from the ground in Spring.)

Second - Install new plants by cutting X's in Weed-Shield at the location of each new
plant.  Plant shrubs, trees and small plants through the material into the soil
                  beneath.

Third - Cover with layer of organic mulch. Cover completely with a 2 inch layer of pine
needles, wood chips or shredded bark to protect it from the sun.

Small weeds may germinate in the top mulch but can easily be removed by hand since the roots will not penetrate the fabric.

Weed-Shield can be placed directly over grass but it's best to remove all existing grass and weeds before installation.  You can use a systemic weed-killer which kills to the roots, or remove all grass and weeds the old fashioned way!

For added protection, a pre-emergent herbicide soil treatment to prevent future germination of weed seeds is also recommended.

The use of sharp, jagged stones is NOT recommended as they can poke holes in the material.

Water may temporarily pool on top of the material. This material functions with a wicking process which means once it makes solid contact with the ground, water will flow through at the same rate it can be absorbed by the soil. Once the process begins, water will penetrate almost immediately thereafter.
