Plant in rich soil with light shade and regular watering. Sow seed in spring or fall cover with 1 1/2 in. of fine soil. Be sure to bait for snails and slugs.

Basal foliage clumps resemble those of columbines, sparsely leafed stems that are 3-6 feet tall, topped by airy clusters of small flowers in summer. Give wind protection. Foliage is good in fresh flower arrangements. (Nice bonus!)
