Snake Fence at Red Rock!

Lambs Ear
"Stachys byzantina"

*Perennial

Height:                 1-1 1/2 ft with 3 ft spikes
When To Plant:   Spring or Fall
Seed Spacing:    3 in
Zone:                    All
Location:              Full Sun to Part Shade
Water:                  Infrequent

Soft, thick, white-woolly, rather tongue-shaped leaves grow densely on spreading, stems. Flower stalks with many whorls of small purplish flowers form in June-July, and are very pretty. Plant is most useful for foliage effect. Rain smashes it down, Frost damages leaves. Cut back in spring. Use for contrast with dark green and different shaped leaves such as strawberry or some sedums. Good edging plant for paths, flower bed borders, highly effective edging for bearded iris. Excellent ground cover under high-branching oaks.

Cut back faded blooms to prolong flowering and protect over wintering plants with a layer of mulch.

You can also propagate these wonderful plants by cuttings or root divisions.

Very easy to grow! If you have any questions you can email me at verna@redrocknursery.com and I will be happy to help you out.

Happy Gardening
