Sow directly in garden as soon as ground can be worked. Place one seed every 3 inches and cover with soil.

Thin plants to 9 in apart when they are 2 inches tall.

The bulb-like structure at the base of the stalk has a pleasant anise aroma and flavor. Serve either boiled or raw. The stalks can be eaten like celery. Seeds and leaves may be harvested as a spice.
