An old-fashioned, cottage-garden plant, freely branched, to 3 ft. tall and as broad, with 4 in. toothed leaves and rounded clusters of 1/2 in. four pedaled lavender to purple flowers. Flowers resemble those of stocks and are sooooo fragrant at night! Old woody plants should be replaced by young seedlings. White and double-flowering forms exist but are rare.

Plant in fall for Spring Blooms. This is a wonderful plant, I don't have any kind of insect problems with this plant. I am not sure if the deer will leave it alone for everyone, but they don't bother mine. This is a plant that isn't seen much these days and it is a real traffic stopper for me! Plant it to the back of your border because it is tall!
